English language is a wonderful gift of civilization to itself. Transcending national, ethnic, religious and class boundaries, it continues its growth from the age of Enlightenment through the age of Space Travel, and hopefully into the new globalized world wherever that may take humanity. Hopefully, cave-dweller mentality or parochialist trends will not destroy what democracy, freedom and liberty have brought forth.

A language should liberate the mind and challenge the spirit. It would be a shame if the growth of wealth and strenth of different “groups” of peoples of the world only leads to destructive tendencies rather than constructive.

Let’s hope the growth of English does not occur at the expense of others, but only to uplift everyone else. Obviously, this can happen only if people of goodwill embrace languages in all their beauty and elegance, and not imbue them with hardened values. Cheers!

I’ve nothing against English, although I think I may be over-privileges to have it as my mother tongue. I would, however, like to put in a word for Esperanto as a neutral international language.

Esperanto has the great advantage of not belonging to any state or group of states. It also has very few native speakers.

With the improvement in health services the number of aged are going to increase considerably. Those who have means to sustain themselves with pension and other means may be able to cope up , but the large number of elders living in villages and below the poverty line are the ones who are worst hit.Government of India has laid down a policy and enacting laws to safe gaurd the elders but vimplementation is so poor that it has no impact whatsoever.With nucleous family concept now pervailing the plight of elders is becoming alarming. Govt and social organisations must come forward to help poor elderly. The plight of widows at Vrindavan is standing shame on Hindus, they can afford 108 varieties of eatables for the lord but only a pittance for the hapelass women. I wonder what Lord Krishana must be thinking of this charity which amounts to bribibing Him for personal favors?

I heard the place name veeracholan, but I would like to know more about People life style and current education level (Mean, how much % of students promoted to study @ college from that village school).
